Semi bespoke trial orthoses are most likely made for you within your biomechanical assessment if appropriate. Orthoses are a useful tool to manipulate your walking or running to suit the needs of your gait or pain.
Some patients only needs orthoses as part of their treatment plan for a temporary amount of time. Some however, can benefit from them long term.
Orthoses come in different types and prescriptions. We typically use semi bespoke as a trial device to reduce patient costs while we tests different prescriptions, a bit like testing different glasses prescriptions at the opticians.
If a semi bespoke pair are successful, some patients will stay on these until they need to replace and some will be casted for a custom bespoke permanent pair.
Custom bespoke orthoses are taken from a cast or scan of your foot. This makes the device ‘bespoke’ to your foot with a prescription to change angles and heights etc depending on your needs. Most people choose these when its only appropriate for bespoke devices or as they last nearly 10x longer than a trial pair. They do tend to be more cost effective in the long run.
We have different costs before trial pairs, long lasting semi bespoke and custom bespoke.

When you need orthotics, accuracy and experience make all the difference. At The Foot & Gait Clinic, your prescription is based on expert assessment and evidence-based treatment planning.
Orthotics are specially designed insoles that change the way your foot moves. They can reduce pain, improve function, and prevent injuries by correcting abnormal movement patterns.
Many patients benefit from semi-bespoke trial orthotics before committing to custom devices. Custom orthotics are usually recommended when long-term or precise correction is required.
With proper care, bespoke orthotics can last several years, often much longer than trial pairs. They can also be repaired or refurbished, making them more cost-effective in the long run.
Orthotics are commonly used for plantar fasciitis, Achilles tendon problems, bunions, tibialis posterior dysfunction, flat feet, shin splints, knee pain, and even hip and back pain linked to poor foot mechanics.
