Semi bespoke trial orthoses are most likely made for you within your biomechanical assessment if appropriate. Orthoses are a useful tool to manipulate your walking or running to suit the needs of your gait or pain.
Some patients only needs orthoses as part of their treatment plan for a temporary amount of time. Some however, can benefit from them long term.
Orthoses come in different types and prescriptions. We typically use semi bespoke as a trial device to reduce patient costs while we tests different prescriptions, a bit like testing different glasses prescriptions at the opticians.
If a semi bespoke pair are successful, some patients will stay on these until they need to replace and some will be casted for a custom bespoke permanent pair.
Custom bespoke orthoses are taken from a cast or scan of your foot. This makes the device ‘bespoke’ to your foot with a prescription to change angles and heights etc depending on your needs. Most people choose these when its only appropriate for bespoke devices or as they last nearly 10x longer than a trial pair. They do tend to be more cost effective in the long run.
We have different costs before trial pairs, long lasting semi bespoke and custom bespoke.
